Job Description

The Redwood City Public Library seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic, technologically savvy, and community-focused manager to manage the Customer Experience division of the Library, and to serve as part of a highly effective management team for the Library.

Under General direction of the Library Director, the Library Division Manager provides highly complex staff assistance to the Library Director, and manages, directs, supervises, and coordinates services of the Downtown Library’s Customer Experience division. Typical duties may include, but are not limited to, managing the following elements of library services: front-line customer service; selecting, cataloging and processing of library materials; information technology services and projects; virtual services; library page staff; and the Downtown computer lab.

The position requires extensive knowledge of contemporary customer service approaches; principles of collection management and organization; project management; trends in library technology; web design, social media, and electronic resources; and management and mentorship of professional and paraprofessional library staff. The Library Division Manager assists in the preparation and administration of the departmental budget; and supervises specialized work teams.

The ideal candidate will work proactively with others to achieve the Library’s strategic goals in a fun, creative, fast-paced, innovative team environment. While the position is based at the Downtown Library, the Library Division Manager is responsible for numerous projects and services that impact all four Redwood City Public Library locations, and the ideal candidate will bring flexibility, an eye to the future, and a big picture view of library services to their decision-making processes.
