Centennial Correctional Facility has a vacancy for a professional Librarian. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring a team of Library Technicians, including hiring recommendations, training and evaluation. Under the direction of a Program Manager and Regional Librarian, this full-time position will plan, coordinate and supervise public/school-type (not law) library services to adult offenders at two libraries, where an average of 90% of the population uses the library.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in library science or related field, (e.g. library informatics, library media technology) is required; a master's degree in library science or related field is preferred.

SUBSTITUTIONS: Professional library work experience that provided the same kind, amount and level of knowledge acquired in the required education, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: 

  • Significant critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills;
  • Keen ability to prioritize and organize multiple projects;
  • Compelling attention to detail;
  • Proficient with e-mail, Microsoft Excel and Word: must have the ability to electronically create, edit, manipulate and share information;
  • Proficient using an integrated library system (ILS) for job related duties;
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, including active listening, written and oral communication skills;
  • Exceptional interpersonal/customer service skills;
  • Ability to train/instruct others.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent Library Media Master’s from an ALA- or NCATE-accredited college or university;
  • Previous supervisory or team lead experience.
