Additional Info & Requirements

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in Library Science or equivalent education and experience, and a minimum of five years of experience in a public library including experience organizing all aspects of a program and delivering program, events or outreach services in a library, educational institution, community non-profit or adult learning organization; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job.   Previous experience as a supervisor.  Skill in designing, preparing, promoting, implementing delivering and evaluating programs.  A working knowledge of computer applications relevant to the delivery of programming and library services including but not limited to Microsoft Office suite and information databases.  Courteous and effective communication skills.  Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies.  Ability to work under minimal supervision.  Willingness and ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and/or weekends. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS – In addition to the required minimum qualifications Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.  Ability to multi-task and prioritize.  Spanish language skills and/or experience working with patrons from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

As a leadership position within the City’s Management Team, the Adult Services Librarian is expected to have and utilize the following competencies:

  • Problem Solving: applies principles of library science and demonstrates persistence with solving practical problems in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Managing and Measuring Work: utilizes knowledge of best practices and trends in information delivery to set clear service delivery goals and to measure and monitor effectiveness of services.
