Job Description

What You'd Do:

Lead four Collection Services Departments - Collection Development, Interlibrary Loan, Cataloging and Technical Access Services – to provide access to materials in all formats to Library customers. Oversee a collection budget of over $5.5 Million. Uphold the philosophies which create and shape the unique collection while protecting it from societal and political pressures. Formulate and lead the strategic and operational initiatives and budget of the Division in conjunction with the Director and other Managers. Guide the work of creative teams, which have reinvented collection development, technical services and resource sharing through the use of technology, vendor outsourcing and streamlined processing. Continue to lead the implementation of a linked data model for library materials, specifically by working with the LibHub project. Work positively with branch and Central leadership to appropriately assess and maintain collections. Create and maintain strong relationships with the community, staff and vendors.

A Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.

Five years of professional library experience including two in at least one of the following: collection development, interlibrary loan, acquisitions, cataloging or processing. Two years supervisory and budgeting experience. Experience in strong fiscal management and leadership. Experience working with Integrated Library Systems. Experience using data to make decisions.

Experience in the management of a collection of similar size and content in a public library (strongly preferred, not required).

Experience with floating collections (preferred, not required).

Spanish language skills (preferred, not required).

Passion for developing relationships and protecting intellectual freedom.

Despite hours reductions and branch closures for renovation, the Denver Public Library circulated over 8 million physical items in 2015, and nearly 900,000 electronic materials.
