Job Description

The Arapahoe Library District is looking for 2 Library Specialists for our Castlewood Library. We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills, who has at least two years of similar experience to join our progressive library system. Are you passionate about the library? Location: Castlewood
Reports to: Branch Supervisor
Supervises: 0
Position: 2 openings: 2 x 20 hours per week, part-time, non-exempt. Schedules include evening and weekend availability.
Hiring Range: $15.24 - $19.07 per hour

Role: Assists patrons in the use of the library by delivering outstanding and personalized service in all areas. Assists in ongoing research and data collection regarding potential new products and services.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

60% PATRON ASSISTANCE
• Responsible for all duties necessary to provide fundamental branch library services:
o Greets patrons and provides proactive assistance
o Provides personalized advisory services to patrons
o Assists patrons with library account maintenance (check out, placing holds, fines)
o Helps patrons with general reference and tech assistance
o Provides handoff to various other specialists when appropriate
o Merchandises
o Promotes library services, programs and offerings

30% MATERIAL PROCESSING
• Processes materials, shelves, handles holds

10% RESEARCH AND DATA COLLECTION
• Supports the trial period of new products and services being tested at Castlewood demo library by learning about what is being tried, communicating with patrons and actively collecting feedback and data during the trial

Qualifications:
Two to five years of similar or related experience, preferred.

Bachelor's degree, preferred.

Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.

Knowledge of informational databases, preferred.

Intermediate technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook, required.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds and ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted, regularly and up to 50 pounds assisted occasionally required.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Ability to provide intermediate advisory services to patrons in all collection formats and genres, and advanced advisory services in one area of choice.

Ability to communicate new ideas, products and services in a positive and engaging manner.

Ability and eagerness to participate in all steps of an experimentation process; setup, implementation, feedback and data collection, refinement, analysis, and assessment.

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
