Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The University Library at CSU-Pueblo is seeking two enthusiastic and knowledgeable librarians to complete the newly organized Division of Education, Research, and Outreach Services. This new unit has been recently formed with the goal of increasing the Library's services and outreach to faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students supporting scholarship, teaching, and learning. Each position will provide an opportunity for a self-motivated librarian to take the lead in developing new services and programs for the library. Both the Scholarly Communications Coordinator/Liaison Librarian and the Outreach and User Experience Coordinator/Liaison Librarian will be at the faculty rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

The Colorado State University - Pueblo Library enables student success by providing a supportive and collaborative academic environment in which students learn to discover, access, and use information resources effectively; critically explore new ideas and concepts; and develop lifelong learning skills. The Library's suite of services and information resources enables high quality teaching, learning, and research for students, faculty, and staff. Special events and collections promote cultural appreciation and lifelong learning throughout the campus and community.

As members of the Education, Research, and Outreach Service Division, Liaison Librarians are involved and engaged in the entire life-cycle of research, teaching, and learning. They collaborate with and support faculty in course-specific ways, including leading efforts to align course learning outcomes with the new ACRL framework, providing point-of-need instruction sessions and assignments, creating research guides and/or tutorials, identifying library materials relevant to the course to embed in Blackboard, place on reserve, or include in course packs, and providing consultation to faculty and students in the department. In addition, librarians provide a full range of subject specific library services to include collection development, consultation, instruction, reference services, and assessment and engage in scholarship and service. Each position will also coordinate specific services as described below.

The Scholarly Communications Coordinator/Liaison Librarian position, in collaboration with library faculty and in accordance with Library Strategic Plan goals, develops and promotes services to support faculty and student publishing and research including data preservation; consults with faculty regarding publishing options including author agreement terms and conditions; supports faculty in the integration of learning materials into Blackboard and reserves systems; develops and coordinates outreach programs and services to inform faculty and staff about legal and ethical issues related to copyright and fair use, scholarly communication including citation management, impact measurement, open access publishing, institutional repositories, researcher identifier systems, and more; and promotes and supports library open access publishing and repository services.

The Outreach and User Experience Coordinator/Liaison Librarian, in collaboration with library faculty and in accordance with Library Strategic Plan goals, develops and implements user experience assessment projects that inform services, online presence, and library spaces, including but not limited to conducting ongoing assessment projects to develop models of user behaviors, needs, and preferences in the physical and virtual library environment. Projects will generally be one per semester, and results will be shared with appropriate library departments to inform their planning and strategies to better serve users' needs. S/he also coordinates communication with library users including email, web-based, social media, and print based communication. S/he develops and implements user outreach and programming for the library including but not limited to coordinating library orientation, developing and carrying out a comprehensive marketing plan, planning and organizing special events, securing grant funding, creating and maintaining informational materials, displays and exhibits, developing publications, cooperating with External Affairs to create press releases, and assisting the Dean with community outreach.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

As members of the Education, Research, and Outreach Services Division, these positions will participate in projects as defined by the team. The major job responsibilities for each position include the following:

Scholarly Communications Coordinator/Liaison Librarian
1. Coordinate Scholarly Communications Education and Outreach Services including but not limited to:
·develop and promote services to support faculty and student publishing and research including data preservation
·consult with faculty regarding publishing options including author agreement terms and conditions
·support faculty in the integration of learning materials into Blackboard and reserves systems
·develop and coordinate outreach programs and services to inform the campus about legal and ethical issues related to copyright and fair use, citation management, impact measurement, open access publishing, institutional repositories, researcher identifier systems, and more
·promote and support library open access publishing and repository services

2. Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments:
·Collaborate with and support faculty in course-specific ways, including leading efforts to position course learning outcomes within new ACRL framework
·Provide point-of-need instruction sessions and assignments
·Participate in library assessment processes for student learning outcomes
·Create research guides and/or tutorials
·Identify library materials relevant to courses to embed in Blackboard, place on reserve, or include in course packs.
·Provide consultation to faculty and students in the department related to research, information literacy, and scholarly communication
·Manage collection development for assigned subject areas
·Provide reference services at the Research Help Desk (possibly including some nights or weekends) or via LibAnswers as scheduled

3. Perform sustained inquiry into one's discipline leading to practical application within the library as well as research resulting in published or presented scholarly output.

4. Serve the Library, the University, and the profession through active membership on boards, committees, panels, etc.

Outreach and User Experience Coordinator/Liaison Librarian
1. Coordinate the library's user experience assessment efforts, including but not limited to:
·develop and implement user experience assessment projects that inform services, online presence, and library spaces
·conduct one assessment project per semester (typically) and share results with appropriate library departments to inform their planning and strategies to better serve users' needs
·assess outcomes of user experience initiatives

2. Coordinate the library's outreach efforts, including but not limited to:
·develop goals and strategies for outreach
·coordinate communication with library users including email, web-based, social media, and print based communication
·pursue national, state and local grants that provide educational and cultural opportunities for the campus and community in support of the library's mission of life-long learning
·develop a library marketing plan
·assess outcomes of marketing activities
·provide campus and community orientation to general library services and resources
·chair the library special events committee
·coordinate special events and exhibits
·create press releases
·create publications, displays and exhibits
·assist the Dean with fundraising activities and community relations

3. Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments:

Preferred Qualifications (Both Positions)
·Master's or Bachelor's degree in STEM discipline, Health Sciences, or Business
·Experience in an academic library
·Familiarity with new ACRL Framework
·Demonstrated strong teaching skills
·Ability to collaborate with diverse groups and communicate ideas effectively
·Demonstrated planning and leadership skills, with the ability to function independently, take initiative, and set goals and priorities in a dynamic changing environment

Preferred Qualifications (Scholarly Communications Coordinator/Liaison Librarian)
·Experience with copyright and intellectual property laws and their application in academic environments, scientific or scholarly publishing, or in related settings
·Knowledge of technical, legal, and information policy issues related to scholarly publishing and new models for scholarly communications
·Experience increasing campus awareness and understanding about scholarly communication and intellectual property issues through instruction, informational materials, and events

Preferred Qualifications (Outreach and User Experience Coordinator/Liaison Librarian)
·Experience with public relations or outreach
·Experience with event planning
·Experience with marketing
·Experience and/or coursework using assessment tools and procedures, including user satisfaction surveys, focus groups, one-on-one interviewing, and other techniques
·Strong commitment to customer service
