Job Description

BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION:  

Seeking a friendly, courteous and dynamic professional to join Pikes Peak Library District in its mission of informing, empowering, inspiring and entertaining through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community.  This position at the Penrose Public Library downtown operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the library’s mission by providing general information and assistance to the public and participating in a wide range of support activities for Adult Services and PPLD.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  

  • Works public desks 15+hours/week providing reference services to walk-ins, over the phone, via email and instant messaging     
  • Assists and instructs patrons through material and on-line searches, computer software applications, reference/in-depth research, community referrals, and outside sources/collections.
  • Provides reader’s advisory services.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions.
  • Promotes library services through tours, demonstrations, talks and displays.
  • May facilitate monthly book club.
  • Coordinates the print reference collection.
  • Will serve occasionally as “Librarian in Charge” in the absence of the Adult Services Manager.
  • Will teach basic computer classes and one-on-one training sessions to the public.
  • May participate in library outreach opportunities
  • May participate on library-wide teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Minimum one year of public library or customer service experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of library practices, procedures and materials.
  • Ability to research and gather information on trends and resources in the library field.
  • Proficiency on computer applications and databases, including Microsoft Office software.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to listen to others, and effectively interact with others.
  • Works collaboratively, is open to the ideas of others and builds trust throughout the organization
  • Practices teamwork, flexibility, and demonstrates a “whatever-it-takes” work ethic, and has an excellent customer service attitude.
  • Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse community.
