Job Description

The Head of Core Technology and Applications (CTA) for CU Boulder Libraries provides broad technical expertise and strong project/people management skills to lead a service-oriented IT team developing, supporting and extending core technology and applications for the Libraries. Core technology and applications facilitate discovery and access of library resources, advance Libraries teaching and learning initiatives, and support internal operations. Working closely with the Office of Information Technology (OIT), the Head of CTA plans and implements infrastructure for desktop support, server and storage management and administration, classroom and conference room audio/visual resources, and other shared initiatives.

The Head of CTA reports to the Faculty Director of Libraries Information Technology and supervises five full-time employees. In this role, the Head of CTA will develop a team highly regarded across the organization for its technical competency and outstanding customer service. Through regular communication with Libraries faculty and staff, the Head of CTA maintains ongoing awareness of user needs and satisfaction with core library IT services, establishes operational transparency, and identifies and delivers user training programs to increase staff expertise and self-sufficiency. Within the LIT department, the Head of CTA sets team priorities, assesses progress, and participates in strategic planning and execution.

What we require:

  • Bachelor’s degree; education and/or relevant experience as described below may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis
  • 5 years of experience that includes a combination of:
    • IT management experience with increasing responsibility in a customer-focused technology service organization, AND
    • Experience in information systems and technology implementation
  • Experience managing, motivating, and leading teams with demonstrated success in team building, mentoring, and creating positive, high-functioning work environments.
  • Demonstrated success leading change and setting/implementing strategic goals that align with organizational priorities.
  • Experience implementing process and operational improvements to increase efficiency, effective use of resources, and quality of service.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with flexible approach to problem-solving and record of fostering strong collaborative partnerships.
  • Ability to lead/manage multiple concurrent projects and adapt to shifting priorities and demands

What we’d like you to have:

  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Familiarity with academic library technology and applications. 
  • Knowledge of ITIL or ITSM principles.
