Job Description

Responsibilities:

1. Reporting to the department chair and dean, leads development of research training and library experience for underclassmen, particularly incoming freshmen and non-traditional students.

    a.     Participates as a member of the library's "instruction work group," charged with representing new-student experience.

         i. Participates in scheduling, coordinating, and supporting liaisons in fulfilling instruction requests.

         ii. Provides instruction to the academic community at large in research-skill development and resources.

     b.    Leads faculty in development, implementation, and review of the LM 1010 course.

         i. Manages the Canvas master shell, including integrating essential learning outcomes (ELOs) into assignments and assessments.

        ii. Coordinates the development and/or selection of course curriculum, instructional materials, assignments, test bank questions, and course schedule.

        iii. Gathers, maintains, and reports data on students' completion and success.

        iv. Under direction of the department chair, trains faculty and coordinates external training as necessary.

 2. Acts as a liaison from the library to one or more academic departments

     a.    Initiates and maintains professional acquaintances with the chair, and with departmental faculty individually.

     b.    Encourages faculty in course- and assignment-related involvement with research instruction, helping faculty structure sound student assignments to foster both subject learning and transferable research skills in relevant data resources.

     c.    Provides research skill-development instruction to courses within the assigned-liaison departments.

     d.    Uses LibGuides, the library Web site, and other tools to create discipline-specific digital and print informational tutorials, guides, handouts, and reference to the subject areas.

     e.    Conducts collection development for one or more subject area(s) relevant to the liaison assignment, including new-acquisition selection, collection weeding, and maintaining the circulating collection in the area(s).

3. Teaches assigned sections of LM 1010, Information Literacy; develops courses and teaches in the online library media endorsement program as assigned.

4. Works collegially with other faculty and staff in internal planning and decision-making processes for the library, including leading and participating on one or more work groups.

5. Assumes regular service assignments at the Questions desk, which may include occasional nighttime and weekend assignments.

6. Maintains scholarly activity and participation in professional and community service as required for promotion and tenure under applicable departmental and University policies.

7. Participates in faculty committees and governance as assigned.

8. Other duties as required and assigned by library administration.

Required Education, Training, and Skills:

Job related-

1. Working knowledge of upper-grade instructional design issues and research skills.

2. Demonstrated ability to write concisely and effectively for digital media.

General-

3. MLS from ALA-accredited library school or foreign equivalent.  Evidence of potential for earning tenure. Promotion to full professor requires an awarded second master's or doctoral degree.

4. Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks asynchronously in an academic environment.

5. Flexibility and interpersonal abilities of a nature to work successfully with a wide variety of constituencies including students, university faculty, staff, and administration.

6. Evidence of ability to work independently and collegially.

7. Organizational, written, and oral-communication skills.

8. Commitment to effective service for both internal and external clients.

Preferred Education, Training, and Skills:

Job related-

1. Experience with user-interface design/assessment.

2. Experience with graphic design and video editing software.

3. Experience with Canvas or comparable learning management system (LMS) software.

General-

4. Experience or commitment to teaching at the college level (online and/or face-to-face).

5. Experience in academic public-service librarianship.
