Job Description

SERVE CONNECT EDUCATE ENTERTAIN. Build on outstanding community support and a record of success as the next Director of the Saline County Library System. The Board of Trustees seek a responsive committed professional with a passion for public service ready to lead a thriving, well established public library system. The Director will honor and build on the Library’s Strategic Plan and continue the relationships with County departments and offices as well as ongoing efforts to create a shared community vision of excellent library services. Governed by a five-member Board, the Library serves the 107,000 Saline County residents with a dedicated staff of 32 FTEs and a $3 million annual operating budget from two locations – the Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library (Benton) and the Mabel Boswell Memorial Library (Bryant).

 Responsibilities. This is an administrative position with full responsibility for overseeing a single county library system with a headquarters library and one branch under the direction of the Saline County Library Board of Trustees. The Library Director recommends and provides regular financial reports to the Board; plans and directs an active continuing public relations program; represents the library in the community; attends library conferences and regional and statewide professional meetings; administers special projects required by the Library and Library Board such as building programs and millage campaigns; hires, trains, evaluates, and develops the administrative staff of the Library and administers personnel policies; is responsible for the Library’s strategic planning process; develops strong relationships with community leaders and organizations, and works closely with the various departments and offices of the county government including the Quorum Court.

Additional Info & Requirements

A Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate degree program accredited by the American Library Association and a minimum of 5 years administrative experience that demonstrates management ability and leadership qualities required to perform the essential functions of this position.
