Job Description

Are you passionate about books? Do you love working with youth of all ages? This position involves developing, coordinating, and running library programs for preK–12th grade. Programs include story hours, craft and afterschool programs, youth book clubs, summer reading programs, movie programs, game nights, and more. Other duties include the following:

  • Providing teachers, parents, and youth with reference assistance and reader advisory
  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with Ouray School and Voyager Youth Program and other agencies serving youth
  • Supporting the director in youth, junior, and young adult collection development and creating appropriate monthly displays
  • Staffing the circulation desk, sorting and shelving books, and providing other patron assistance as required

Hours: 12 to 16 hours/week; some Friday evenings (movie programs) and some Saturdays (flexible)

  • At least one year of experience working in a library, school, or youth services setting or working with children, young adults, and families, performing duties related to the coordination and delivery of youth programs.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (desired) with a major or concentration in Education, Library Science, English or related field (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to establish relationships with children and young adults.
  • Strong communication, writing and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of basic Microsoft programs.
  • Creativity and effective group management skills.
  • A knowledge of and proficiency in general library organization and function.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
