Job Description

Location: Various Arapahoe Library District locations, as needed
Reports to: Librarian Supervisor
Supervises: 0
Position: 40 hours, full-time, exempt position. Ability to work evenings and weekends, required.
Pay Rate: $40,400 - $60,640 per year

Role: Assists patrons with advanced search needs and develops library programs and services for all patrons, including the young adult demographic.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
60% ADVANCED SEARCH ASSISTANCE – Conducts patron interviews, employs search strategies, provides advanced reference and reader's advisory services, mentors staff, and recommends resources in order to satisfy patron requests of an advanced nature.

40% PROGRAM & SERVICE DEVELOPMENT – As assigned, researches, recommends and implements program and service initiatives, including but not limited to, community outreach, web content, collections, merchandising, volunteers, public programs, and computer training in order to develop system-wide programs and services for patrons.

Qualifications:
Two years of similar or related experience, required.

MLS or MLIS degree, required.

Ability to travel to other work/library locations, as needed, required.

Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.

Experience with developing and conducting young adult oriented programs and services, preferred.

Experience with current young adult literature, periodicals, audiovisual materials, websites, and electronic media, required.

Experience with culturally diverse populations and youth from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, required.

Experience planning, developing, and implementing team projects, required.

Possess an understanding of theories of adolescent development and its implications for library services, required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly.

Evidence of ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.

Experience with grant-writing, preferred.

Experience in public service, including the ability to interact effectively with patrons and staff.

Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook, required.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to assist patrons with advanced technology needs, required.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of library and information science theory, information creation, organization, and delivery as it applies to the Arapahoe Library District.

Ability to exhibit leadership skills including critical thinking, active listening, risk taking, and creativity, regardless of position within the organization structure.

Ability to exhibit an understanding of the importance of a multidisciplinary and cross-functional approach to programs and projects within the organization.

Ability to communicate openly, directly, clearly and respectfully with customers and colleagues to advance the interests of the library.

Ability to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner in dealing with customers and colleagues one-on-one or in groups, in both formal and informal settings.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required.

The Community

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
