Job Description

Under the general direction of the Children's Services Supervisor, performs professional duties in Children's Services. Provides reference services, reader's advisory, instruction, programming, collection development, and circulation functions for children and their families, as well as outreach services to schools and the community. Performs other work as required. Schedule includes evening and weekend hours.

• Assists library users in locating general and reference resources, provides instruction and reader's advisory services to children and their families.
• Provides individual assistance and instruction in the use of public computers, the Internet, and other technologies.
• Organizes, coordinates and presents story times and other programs for children.
• Assists in the preparation and planning of children's programming done by others.
• Prepares bibliographies and other instructional material as needed.
• Goes to area schools and community organizations to promote Children's services and to deliver programming.
• Reviews and recommends general reading and reference materials for the library's collection in a variety of formats, including print, audiovisual and electronic.
• Manages and monitors collections to ensure that they are current, accurate, and relevant. Manages appropriate portions of the acquisitions budget.
• Assumes responsibility for the department when working alone.
• May assist with the development of grant proposals.
• Assists with displays for the Children's Services division.
