Job Description

Performs original cataloging of monographic titles, original and copy cataloging of musical scores, print and electronic journal titles, archival materials, government documents, and audiovisual materials. Performs substantive database maintenance, including but not limited to: authority control, headings reports and global updates.

Duties and Responsibilities are understood in reference to the terms and conditions set forth in the Library Faculty Handbook.

Essential:
1. Performs original cataloging of unique monographic and serial titles.
2. Performs original and copy cataloging of musical scores.
3. Supervises physical processing of musical scores.
4. Performs original and copy cataloging of print and electronic journal titles.
5. Performs original and copy cataloging of audiovisual materials.
6. Performs original and copy cataloging of archival materials.
7. Exports records from OCLC and loads into III Sierra.
8. Edits records from OCLC and other sources in MarcEdit.
9. Assists with batch loading records of electronic resources including but not limited to: DDA, Springer, Oxford Scholarship Online, and Serials Solutions.
10. Performs authority work on cataloging loads provided by outside vendors (to include MARCIVE, Books24X7, GALE, LTI authority files) and local authors.
11. Performs other database management duties as required, including URL maintenance and global updates.
12. Collaborates with other member libraries to troubleshoot batch loading of consortial cataloging records.
13. Upgrades cataloging applications such as Connexion, including the creation of constant data files.
14. Responsible for awareness of current cataloging standards and rule changes and dissemination to relevant staff.
15. Participates in university governance bodies.
16. Keeps abreast of professional practice through such activities as professional reading, discussion lists, visiting other libraries, attending professional conferences and other continuing education opportunities.
17. Contributes to the profession through such activities as reading papers at professional and learned societies; consulting; publishing; participating in the committee structure of professional and learned societies.

The Collections and Resource Management Department is set up with a series of checks and balances. Great care is taken to proof each others work. This is done to ensure materials are labeled correctly, to ensure correct metadata and ease of access to materials and to ensure other standards are met that reflect the high quality of the department and the superior image of the University.

Must have strong spelling skills.Reasoning: Ability to prioritize workflow, determine when an item needs special attention, when to ask questions or follow past practices.Working Conditions: (Physical environment)1.Will be working indoors with adequate heating and air conditioning.2.Extensive use of computer terminal may lead to headaches, eyestrain and wrist problems.3.Regular lifting of heavy boxes of books or pushing or pulling of loaded book carts may cause back or muscle pain.
