Job Description

Loveland Public Library is looking to fill a full-time position shared between its Children and Teen Divisions. This person will be responsible for developing 21st century skills with STREAM programming for ages 0-17, managing youth media collections, and supervising material handling staff. They will also be responsible for content creation, tech support and staff training for the winter and summer reading program digital badging platform, currently featured in the American Library Association’s Center for the Future of Libraries. 

Loveland Public Library serves as the single municipal library of Loveland, Colorado with a service area of 72,000. With separate areas for teens, maker programs and tech classes, Loveland Library offered over 1,000 programs for youth last year with an attendance of 43,298. Some of these programs include Robotics, School-Out Science, Buddy Reading, 3D Printing Workshops, Lego Club, Anime Junkies, and Early Literacy Storytimes.

Responsible for a variety of duties within the Children & Teen Divisions including, but not limited to, customer service, selection and recommendation of materials, program administration and outreach.    

The salary range for this position is $20.39 - $29.62 annually with an expected hiring range of $20.39- $25.00 depending on qualifications and experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  •  Provide high level of customer service in both Children & Teen Divisions.
  • Hire, train and evaluate Material Handling employees.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate programming and outreach for Children and Teen Divisions.
  • Update and manage Winter and Summer Reading Program Digital Platform.
  • Scheduling in the absence of Division Managers.
  • Develop media collection for Children and Teen Departments.
  • Work schedule requires some evening hours and a minimum of one weekend per month.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees: planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
This position is a first-line supervisor responsible for non-exempt and/or non-supervisory exempt part-time employee(s).  
Highest level supervised:  non-exempt employee(s).
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  

Knowledge, skills & abilities:
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with and relate to children, teens and their caregivers. Knowledge of standard library operating procedures, methods, philosophies and equipment.  Background and knowledge of literature, media and library services to young people.  Must possess exceptionally strong customer service skills.  Ability to positively inspire and energize customers about library services and materials.  Ability to use computer software to prepare materials for graphic reproduction or printing.  Ability and experience in providing story times, STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) programs and public presentations to groups of varying ages.   Direct experience working with children or teens in a childcare, educational or library setting; knowledge of various reading levels of materials for youth.  Knowledge of library research and reference methods, philosophies and processes.  Ability to establish effective working relationships with library coworkers.  Ability to perform job duties during relaxed or stressed activity levels within the department.  Ability to work independently, complete tasks on time and to constructively problem solve. Education and/or experience:
Bachelor's degree required.  Masters in Library Science (MLS) from accredited program preferred.  Three (3) years progressively responsible library experience required.  One (1) year supervision of paid staff including hiring, discipline, performance management & evaluation preferred.  Spanish language proficiency a plus.
