Job Description

The University of Colorado Law School’s William A. Wise Law Library is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic, and service-driven individual to serve as Digital Projects Coordinator to help us in shaping services and collections for 21st century learners, educators, and scholars. 


Our law library is involved in an ongoing process of digitizing collections for public access. This position will be responsible for overseeing the digitization process including project management; hiring, training and supervising student workers; digitizing materials; and creating documentation. This position works independently under the general supervision of the Digital Services Librarian.

Other duties to assist all library departments as needed.


Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance and Monitoring:

  • Creates and performs quality review procedures on visual, audio and video files. 
  • Uses digital media editing software to correct flaws in digital assets.
  • Monitors data integrity of the law library’s digital collection using common digital preservation standards and documents data errors.

Technical Practice:

  • Digitizes and oversees the digitization of print and media collections using technology tools. Learns and utilizes technology tools to create digital assets.
  • Researches and stays current with recognized and evolving standards both for the preservation of digital files and the dissemination of these electronic resources via the web.
  • Creates and maintains collections of digital objects in the law library’s digital asset management system. Creates XML-based metadata using standard schema and document description protocol such as MODS, Dublin Core, Bibframe, PREMIS, and other law-specific structures.


Digitization Project Management:

  • Plays a lead role in developing and managing digitization projects and providing expertise to the digitization team.
  • Does not determine the budget, but provides assistance in keeping within the annual student assistant budget for digitization and tracking those expenditures.
  • Prepares and maintains all payroll records and time sheets for student assistants. Submits payroll hours using payroll system.
  • Provides training for students in the optimal use of the library scanning and digitization equipment.
  • Hires, schedules, and supervises at least four student workers responsible for the creation of digital assets.
  • Creates and maintains up-to-date, internal technical documentation and training manuals for faculty, staff and students who will be using the scanning and digitization equipment in the library, particularly for uniformity in processes and application of standards and specifications.
  • Maintains job queue and creates methods to document work progress for student workers.
  • Coordinates project tasks for multiple projects at different project stages.

Qualifications

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Familiarity with and interest in information technology hardware and software tools such as scanners and photo / document editing programs.
  • Experience using spreadsheet or database programs for data entry or data analysis.

  • Ability to apply standards to a collection of documents or other items and develop solutions and guidance to fix problems encountered in collection.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Supervisory experience including ability to train and mentor students.

  • Detail-oriented; creative; flexible; and able to work as a member of a team.

  • Library experience, particularly experience using technology tools in a library environment.
  • Familiarity with digitization process and digital repositories.
  • Familiarity with project management methods and tools.
  • Ability to identify and extract information from documents for data entry.
