Job Description

Responsibilities: The Denison Memorial Library, University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center has an immediate opening for a full-time Library Technician I in the Access Services and Circulation Department. This position is responsible for providing customer services from the library’s service desk, circulating library materials, maintaining the orderliness of the library, aiding patrons with accessing materials, providing basic information assistance and/or referrals for patrons to other library staff, and implementing rules and regulations regarding the loaning of materials in the collection. Specific duties include maintaining accessibility of books and journal collections by re-shelving materials in exact alphabetical and numerical sequence; moving and redistributing library materials from one location to another in order to make room for new materials; keeping library areas neat and orderly; assisting at the Circulation Desk which includes answering the phones, greeting patrons, checking library materials in and out and informing library users of policies and procedures; programming and selling library and photocopy cards; tracking and mailing overdue notices; maintaining photocopy machines; assisting clients with the use of library information resources; closing and checking library at the end of the day by checking all areas for patrons, turning off lights and preparing all computer terminals for shutdown; and performing general duties such as pulling journals and books, making photo copies, scanning materials, sending or mailing articles and assisting with account set-ups. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One year of general library experience including typing, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials. SUBSTITUTION: One year of college course work including six semester hours of library science course work may be substituted for the general library experience.

This position will be required to work evenings and weekends (Tuesday thru Saturday until closing: Tuesdays-Thursdays 1pm-10pm, Fridays 9am-6pm, and Saturdays 9:30am-6pm). On occasions this position will be required to shift their schedule and work extended hours to accommodate later library closing hours. Perferred Qualifications: *Experience that demonstrates strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds which also includes experience working with staff, patrons, faculty, and students in a higher education and/or medical education environment. *Experience and working knowledge of automated library circulation systems and utilizing library searching tools which includes the ability to search and retrieve information from electronic databases and computer systems, and utilizing reference books, indexes, and abstracts. Experience must have also included one or more years of working in circulation and/or reference department of a library. *Usage and knowledge of Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel) which also includes updating and maintaining electronic databases. *Experience using a cash register and maintaining and balancing cash receipts. *Experience that demonstrates the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and work independently with minimal supervision. *The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, and a fast learner and will have strong organizational, written and communication skills.

The Community

The HS Library is currently located at 9th & Colorado Blvd. In October 2007 the library will be moving to the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. The new library is a state-of-the-art facility located at 12950 E. Montview Blvd.
