Job Description

Who are you?

You are passionate about libraries. You are well read and can’t wait to find out about the latest books. You love movies and are the go-to person for recommendations. You are fascinated about incorporating local content into a digital archive – perhaps having thought about creating your own local StoryCorps or digitizing a local museum’s photographs and local history. You can foresee the trends before anyone else in the crowd. You embrace the challenge of managing the collections at a beloved library in beautiful Southwest Colorado. You are the expert in the process of choosing, buying, cataloging, and tracking the materials you choose from the minute they arrive until they are no longer useful. You are familiar with providing important information through databases and interested in helping the public comfortably use them.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Essential Duties of the Collection Development Librarian

  • We are searching for a Collection Development Librarian to manage and develop all our collections including our digital repository and reference databases. If you like working with a staff that is highly collaborative, creative, and fun, then, this is the position for you.

The Collections Librarian also provides statistics and reports as needed and monitors national trends, technologies, and best practices in resource sharing, e-resources, collection assessment, and collection management. In collaboration with the Library Director, the Collection Development Librarian takes the lead in developing and updating collection policies and standards for selecting, reviewing, and removing information resources.
  • You will oversee two employees who are involved with the daily cataloging, acquisitions and processing functions. You will work with our Integrated Interfaces Inc.’s Sierra ILS and Pika interface in collaboration with the Marmot Library Consortium.
  • You will coordinate and curate digitization projects with the help of the Marmot Consortium’s Digital Repository.
  • You will determine what databases are useful and relevant to our customers and teach the staff and our patrons how to use them.

Additional Duties of the Customer Service/Main Service Desk

  • Serves the general public at the public service points.
  • Assists patrons with circulation and borrowing processes.
  • Answers questions in person, by phone and online.
  • Provides ready reference, reader's advisory service and instruction in the use of the library to patrons.
  • Provides basic reference service by utilizing the physical and virtual services available within the library (library collection, union catalog, databases, nearby libraries, Interlibrary Loan, etc.).
  • Shelves returned materials; read and straighten shelves to maintain proper order.
  • Promotes all library services and programming to the general public.
  • Provides basic computer support and informational instruction to patrons on the use of library catalog, online databases, Internet and downloadable media.
