Job Description

Reports to:  Supervisor, Child & Family Library Services

Supervises:  0

Position: 40 hours Full-time, Exempt

Pay Rate:  $40,400 - $60,640 per year

 

Role: Plans and implements educational Early Literacy initiatives, programs, and services for children and adults. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

50% CONTRACT SERVICES – Arapahoe County Early Childhood Council (ACECC)

  • Prepare, organize and deliver contracted programs and services in order to fulfill our ACECC partnership and promote quality Early Literacy learning opportunities within the community.
  • Provide programming in an engaging manner according to the District's Storytime and Early Literacy Competencies.
  • Assist Supervisor in monitoring program expenditures and communications.
  • Manage program volunteers and collaborate effectively with ACECC partners.

40% EARLY LITERACY PROGRAM & SERVICE DELIVERY

  • Prepare, organize and deliver both contracted and specialized District initiated parent-child early childhood programs and services.
  • Integrate an understanding of "Every Child Ready to Read" early literacy skills and practices, and demonstrate outstanding personal connections with children and caregivers.
  • Develop and maintain meaningful, productive relationships with families.

10% CFLS DEPARTMENT SUPPORT

  • Support CEAS and ELS staff by providing proactive assistance and advisory services, as well as material handling in children's spaces.
  • Assist patrons with general reference, technical assistance and advisory services.
  • Promote District Early Literacy services, initiatives, programs and offerings of the libraries.
  • Fulfill all CFLS Program Liaison duties.
  • Provide an excellent customer experience through ongoing professional development.

3. PROGRAM & SERVICE DELIVERY - Effective preparation and quality delivery of literacy programs.

4. DEPARTMENT SUPPORT – Effective department support.

Qualifications:

Two to five years experience in conducting quality storytimes, similar or related experience, required.

Master's degree in Library Science, required.

Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, required.

Ability to work in multiple facilities and have a flexible work schedule. The bulk of time for this position will be spent in public library service areas throughout the district.

Knowledge of early childhood learning, literacy and Every Child Ready to Read philosophies, required.

Experience working confidently with adult parents and caregivers, required.

Knowledge of informational databases, preferred.

Intermediate technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook, required.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, and ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted regularly and up to 50 pounds assisted occasionally required.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Intermediate reader's advisory experience or knowledge of board books, picture books to junior level, preferred.

Ability to conduct effective storytimes and programs in front of varying groups and demographics.

Experience with Family Place Library philosophy, preferred.

Passionate about the mission of public libraries.

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, including mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
