Job Description

The JCPL Public Services Division is looking for a Public Services Coordinator Senior - Special Populations.  This position is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing library services and access to resources to underserved populations, including Spanish speakers, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, and people of all age groups.  This position's office is located at the Belmar Library, but daily work locations can be throughout Jefferson County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Special Populations Services

  • Creates, coordinates, and implements system-wide services for Special Populations.
  • Applies established industry benchmarks and community input when creating services.
  • Provides quality assurance in Special Populations programs, including off-site locations.
  • Coordinates and supervises the promotion of programs to target audiences.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trends in libraries and related fields.

Quality Customer Experience

  • Conducts outreach into the community.
  • Creates conditions for system-wide quality customer experience for Special Populations.
  • Understands and models best customer service practices particular to Special Populations.
  • Routinely provides direct customer service, occasionally in non-routine situations.
  • Implements industry best practices for merchandising, labeling, and promoting library resources.

Supervision & Training

  • Hires, assigns, trains, orients, and supervises staff, including coaching on industry best practices.
  • Communicates expectations to staff about library service and trends in customer services.
  • Anticipates and solves problems as non-routine situations arise.
  • Participates with others in cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives.

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides input for anticipated local and system budgetary needs.
  • Participates in special assignments such as prototyping new services.
  • Complies with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119 and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association, as well as, ADA governing public access to space and technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, Library degree preferred.
  • At least two years of related experience, public library experience preferred.
  • Experience working with Spanish speakers, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, people of all age groups; and experience presenting to children and adults preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish at a proficient level.
  • Supervision experience of two or more full-time employees preferred.
  • Intermediate reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Computer and technology skills as appropriate for the position.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver's license.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must work days, some evenings and weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Must pass a Spanish language assessment (read, speak, write).
  • Offer of employment contingent upon criminal history check, motor vehicle record check, and education verification.
