Job Description

The Bozeman Public Library is seeking a compassionate, customer service focused Bookmobile Librarian who is passionate about engaging patrons from all backgrounds and ages. The ideal candidate has an awareness of community, sense of humor, and a positive and enthusiastic approach to providing library services. The Bookmobile Librarian performs a variety of direct public service work and outreach as well as behind-the-scenes work. Maintains the Bookmobile vehicle in a clean and safe operating condition. Works with administration to plan and manage bookmobile operations, including outreach, policy implementation and supervision of bookmobile staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
Provides informational and reference assistance to a variety of patrons from diverse backgrounds and all ages. Provides library resources in all formats and utilizes reference materials to assist all community outreach patrons. Assists in maintaining a pleasant, inviting, and safe environment. Represents the Library in community partnerships. Engages with local organizations through speaking engagements, presentations, committee involvement and other initiatives.
Responsible for developing and maintaining a Bookmobile schedule. Drives the Library’s Bookmobile; responsible for following Library’s standards and procedures for optimizing safe handling and operation of the Bookmobile. Plans, designs, implements, and evaluates outreach programming.
Perform circulation duties including issuing cards, checking materials in and out, reserving books, collecting fines, and answering the phone. Promotes library collections, services, and programs. Responsible for ensuring these functions can happen in remote settings away from the library. Maintains confidentiality of patron information. Excellent interpersonal/customer services skills; ability to be consistently pleasant, positive and responsive to a diverse public and staff.
Develops, implements, and presents programs for various community outreach audiences. Develops programs for various facilities including schools, nursing facilities, and other outside organizations, informing them of library services and developing partnerships in collaboration.
Good working knowledge of adult, teen and children’s literature and related media and materials. Proactively collaborates with selectors in the development and maintenance of the collection. Ensures the collection is relevant, current and responsive to community outreach needs and priorities. Responsible for the general physical maintenance of the rotating collection; sorts and shelves materials, shelf reads and moves/rotates materials as necessary. Responsible for appropriate and appealing display of materials on vehicles.
Is professionally active; identifies and participates in professional development opportunities. Reads widely to keep in touch with library trends, developments and new technology and contributes ideas and suggestions to colleagues and library staff members.
Maintains statistical information and generates reports as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned.

Provides exemplary customer service and maintains a favorable public image of the library. The incumbent has a desire to work in a public service role. Has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people from diverse backgrounds, including youth, families, volunteers, and coworkers. Builds and maintains positive working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and fosters positive partnerships with outside organizations. The job requires the ability to identify outreach opportunities and to both bring people to the library while serving those who cannot make it to a physical location.

REQUIRED SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to manage large scale projects;
• Ability to build/start-up materials collections and maintain it long term;
• Thorough understanding of good customer service practices;
• Ability to effectively market Bookmobile and library services;
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing environments;
• Ability to work independently with special emphasis on decision making while alone;
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with members of the community;
• Ability and desire to work with ALL members of the public.

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to obtain a Class B Montana Commercial Driver’s License within six months of employment.
