Job Description

 Summary: The Librarian acquires, organizes, promotes and disseminates a wide range of resources to meet the diverse needs of the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties maybe assigned.

  • Daily operation of the Library which includes - assisting patrons in locating materials; assisting patrons with computer and printer use. Inter-library loans. Creating new patron accounts, checking out materials and receiving returned materials.
  • Development and implementation of special events such as Summer Reading, Easter Egg Hunt and other City sponsored events.
  • Collection development, selecting and ordering of books and material. De-selection of old, damaged or uncirculated items.
  • Catalog and process new materials.
  • Research and apply for grants.
  • Monitor library budget and process invoices for payment; prepare check requests.
  • Recordkeeping of patron attendance and circulation. Comply with all State Library reporting requirements.
  • Process orders for supplies.
  • Recruit and train volunteers.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

  • Knowledge of laws governing libraries and Dacono Municipal policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the use and operation of basic office equipment such as personal computer, phone system, photocopier/scanner, and fax machine.
  • Ability to exhibit attention to detail in accuracy of data input.
  • Effectively organize/prioritize assigned duties and work within deadlines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Maintain an exemplary level of attendance and punctuality.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and professional appearance.

Education/Experience: Associate’s Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patrons, and the general public.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Internet software and KOHA database software. Maintenance and operation of public computers.

Certificates and Licenses: No certifications needed, however, must be able to attain successful results for any of the following pre-offer and post-offer hire processes: interviewing, reference checks, and background checks.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
