Job Description

This is a part-time, at-will position with benefits.  The City of Arcadia is currently seeking a responsible, service-oriented Library Technician I to perform a full range of  general clerical and administrative functions for Children’s Services. Under immediate supervision, the Library Technician I will:
•Answer directional and basic informational questions at the public service desk;
•Explain and demonstrate library policies, procedures and facilities to patrons;
•Type, sort, duplicate, and file documents and other materials;
•Maintain a variety of records;
•Operate a variety of office machines including computers, laminator, cash registers, and copiers;
•Assist patrons with the operation of computers and other equipment;
•Assist in designing, planning, and presenting a variety of age-appropriate specialty programs including literature presentations, story times, crafts, displays, games, and other activities;
•Design and create flyers, posters, and a wide variety of program support materials;  and performs other duties as assigned.
•In Technical and Circulation Services, the Library Technician I processes new books, magazines, paperbacks, and other materials; adds new materials to the library database; and deletes old, outdated, or damaged material from collection. Registers patrons for library cards; checks materials in and out; collects fines and fees.

The  current opening is in Children’s Services. The eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used to fill full-time and permanent part-time vacancies in Circulation or Technical Services within the next 12 months.

WORK SCHEDULE
Hours of operation are Monday through Thursday 10 A.M. to 9 P.M. and Friday & Saturday  10 A.M. to 6 P.M.  The schedule may include evenings and Saturdays depending on the needs of the department. 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Experience: Some experience working in a library is desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with social media outlets is highly desirable.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. 
Skill to: Ability to type 35 words per minute net and enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance. Typing Certificate Information.
