Job Description

Oversees and supervises the bibliographic services department of the District Library Media Program. Monitors trends and technologies in the e-resource management arena and develops systems and standards for all cataloging requirements for both print and electronic resources. Leads collaborative initiatives with other district departments to enhance discovery and delivery for integration, access, and use of electronic and print resources within the Integrated Library System and through websites to support World Class Education and System Performance. Assists the Library Director in research and implementation of new educational library practices and contributes to district-wide initiatives at the district level and through school contact, that advance the Libraries' strategic programs and operational excellence. The District Library Media Program provides a highly collaborative environment, distinguished by new models for teaching and learning, research support and communication; innovative web development, collaborative digital library development, programs of process improvement and learning commons development.

  • Supervise, on a daily basis, the bibliographic Services department staff, including assignment of work, training, and delegation of duties.

  • Enter original cataloging for all library materials including print, non-print, collections, and digital to include eBooks and streaming videos not found in OCLC databases.

  • Perform some copy cataloging and assign subject headings and classification requiring the exercise of independent professional judgment. Upgrade the bibliographic record to a fuller record for better access to the collection.

  • Upload print and e-book cataloging records to the online catalog individually or via batch loads of vendor-supplied records; for the latter, acquire updated files from multiple sources on a regular basis, edit them to our standards and load them into the catalog.

  • Enter, correct, and delete records from database. Perform regular database maintenance.

  • Design, develop, and maintain bibliographic policies and procedures manuals.

  • Construct and maintain authority, subject and series headings according to Library of Congress and other established standards, conventions, and protocols. Ensure adherence to rules for cataloging.

  • Direct web page development and design of the DLMP web site to create additional web links for resources, services, offerings, and objectives.

  • Provide input and assistance with library reports, policies, and procedural matters.

  • Attend meetings, activities, task forces, and workshops pertinent to library resource integration.

  • Collaborate with the director to write and initiate grant proposals seeking funding designed to aid, enhance, or create library service programs or assets.

  • Develop and conduct training for school librarians and DLMP staff to include electronic device usage, e-book support, and digital resource usage.

  • With guidance of the Director, perform research, conduct studies, or garner statistics relating to effectiveness, user needs, and new services and technologies.

  • Research current and emerging technologies as they apply to licensing, workflow, access and delivery, or e-content.

  • Provide leadership and make decisions with the implementation and integration of e-books and e-textbooks where appropriate by meeting with vendors and school representatives, setting up pilots, and providing professional development and support. 

  • Assist director in the development of the strategic direction for library programming by setting short and long term goals, planning, leading, or contributing to departmental and District-wide priorities, and engaging staff, constituents, and stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Library Automation Support Staff to upgrade cataloging protocols and activate e-resources for easy access. 

  • Communicate e-resource and cataloging news & updates to library staff.

  • Assist Library Media Programming Team on special projects.

  • Respond professionally to all District Library Program communications and assist staff and community with concerns and questions.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
