What You'd Do:
Supervise the daily operations of the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, the gateway to the rapidly re-developing Five Points urban neighborhood and the Welton Street Historic District. Create lifelong library customers by implementing and supervising library services designed to attract and meet the needs of customers of all ages seeking entertainment, information resources, professional reference assistance and excellent service. Oversee the implementation of programming, both as a busy, full-service public branch and a hub of African American cultural preservation. Connect with community stakeholders through outreach to various neighborhood, civic and business organizations. Work with various teams to design and implement branch-specific and system-wide services in support of Library strategic initiatives. Communicate effectively about the Library, including issues and initiatives, with customers, staff and administration.
You Have:
Knowledge of library services and promotion of library services. Knowledge of popular materials for all ages and of current trends in library programming. Skill in bringing imaginative programs to the public. Skill in providing reference, reader and media advisory service. Skill in merchandising of materials both inside and outside the Library . Skill in providing strong, dedicated and compassionate leadership. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to select, train, motivate and supervise professional and clerical staff. Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Ability to model positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to use extensive workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, eMedia, social media and other software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.
A Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.
Two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library.
Two years of previous supervisory experience (strongly preferred, not required).
Two years of professional-level program coordination, outreach, community engagement or leadership (strongly preferred, not required).

The Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library is a unique branch that combines three different service concepts. This position oversees all of them, with the majority of time dedicated to the service and supervision of the busy and diverse public branch library located on the first floor, including circulation, reference, programming and computer/Internet use. A smaller amount of time is spent on the coordination of the second and third floors, which provide archives, research resources and a museum aimed at preserving and showcasing of the many contributions of African Americans to Colorado and the West.
Although the full salary range for this position is provided, offers depend on qualifications and typically do not exceed the midpoint. The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.
The schedule will be determined by the needs of the branch and will include evening and weekend hours.
