Job Description
Under the general direction from the Program & Outreach Services Manager, this 30 hour Librarian I position leads a team of staff in programming for youth and selects in an area of the collection. Spanish language skills are strongly preferred.

What you know: • Library principles, trends, and services • Child and adolescent development • Early literacy principles and initiatives • Digital literacy • Reader’s advisory tools and resources • Collection development resources and practices • How to organize and prioritize tasks • Masters of Library Science, preferred • Spanish language skills, strongly preferred • Experience in programming for youth, birth-teen
What you’ll do: • Plan and present programs for youth, birth-teen • Coordinate scheduling of all early literacy story time programs and • Collaborate to arrange publicity for programs • Mentor staff in best practice in early literacy and service to youth • Evaluate, select, and maintain an area of the library collection • Collaborate in the planning and implementation of the summer reading program • Promote the summer reading program by visiting local schools and events • Oversees the library’s early childhood play space by organizing the space and our a collection of developmentally appropriate materials • Manage program budgets and grant funds • Deliver work product and service with responsiveness, courtesy, and tact • Participate in the public service desk rotation, as required • Manage portions of the acquisitions budget as assigned, and monitor collections to ensure they are current, accurate, and relevant • Keep abreast of current trends in the field through participation in user groups and attendance at conferences, workshops and meetings • Participate in work committees and teams
