Job Description

What your key responsibilities will be:

The University of Colorado Libraries Metadata Services Department’s Digital Collections Unit seeks a flexible and imaginative candidate to cooperate and contribute to meeting the goals and evolving demands placed on the department.  The position accurately catalogs Libraries’ materials and maintains, corrects, and enhances the Libraries’ online database for the purpose of supplying detailed and up-to-date records of our holdings to our patrons and those of other libraries and to Internet users who access the public catalog. This position also contributes metadata to the Libraries' digital collections, specifically those housed in digital repositories such as the CU Digital Library, the CU Scholar institutional repository, and the Libraries' instance of ArchivesSpace.

You will have responsibilities in the following areas:

  • CATALOGING materials in English and various modern European languages by analyzing and modifying LC and member library records from the OCLC database. Specific cataloging assignments vary over time according to the needs of the department. There will be particular emphasis on special project cataloging such as Special Collections materials.
  • METADATA CREATION for a wide variety of materials, both language and non-language, for use in the Libraries' digital repositories.
  • AUTHORITY WORK, including working with unmatched access points (personal names, corporate/conference names, series, uniform titles for translations, and subjects) and with notifications of access point changes.
  • PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, staying current with technological developments, particularly in OCLC, LUNA, Sierra, and the Libraries' discovery tool by reading technical publications and system documentation, attending instruction sessions, and consulting with other department members.

This position offers a base monthly salary of $2,977 or $35,724 annually. What we require:

NOTE: You must be a current Colorado resident in order to apply.

  • Two years of general library experience including typing, ordering, preparing, shelving, and maintaining library materials.
  • *Substitution:* Two years of course work from an accredited college or university including twelve semester hours of library science course work may substitute for two years of the general library experience.
