You will help adults and teens explore the ever-expanding world of print and digital resources, including new and creative technologies, and will help deliver engaging programs. The Substitute Library Associate provides direct customer service in order to connect patrons to appropriate resources, programs and services. Welcomes and offers assistance to patrons. Performs circulation functions.
This is an on-call, substitute position, with no guarantee of hours or schedule.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Assists patrons in identifying, locating, and using library and information resources including print, non-print, and digital resources. Performs all circulation functions. Includes creating patron accounts, issuing cards, checking materials in and out, maintaining patron database, and collecting fines. Assists patrons in the use of library computers and provides assistance with use of email, word processing, web-based searching, and other common software. Provides guidance to patrons with basic functions such as saving and printing of documents. Assists with programs, story times, and special services such as readers' advisory, career assistance, technology training or homebound delivery. Assists with promotion and marketing of library materials, services, and programs, including display and merchandising of the collection. Other Duties & Responsibilities Assists with Interlibrary Loan Performs routine database maintenance, such as discarding and changing item status, searching for missing, lost or billed items, and magazine check in May work with volunteers. Performs other duties as assigned and required.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in any field required
Work Experience: 2 years of customer service experience; library and/or bookstore experience preferred.
Certifications and/or Licensures: None
Required Driver's License: None
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
Other Information: Knowledge Basic knowledge of:
- Public library operations
- Maintaining database records
- Word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Standard office equipment including copiers, computers and printers
- General information technologies to include portable computing devices and research techniques
Skills and Abilities Computer Skills - Basic computer skills required for accurate data entry and records management. Intermediate skills required to instruct patrons in the use of common software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, downloadables, and search engines. Communication Skills - Intermediate communication skills required to work in a team-oriented environment. Also required to interact with patrons and provide customer service.
