Job Description
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide face-to-face, email, chat, and phone reference.
- Provide information on library activities, facilities, rules, and services.
- Direct students and faculty to relevant online databases and web resources and demonstrate their use.
- Facilitate the development of information literacy skills through reference, instruction, and the creation of library research tools.
- Provide interactive Information Literacy Instruction, APA Style reference help, database workshops, etc. in a classroom and small group setting.
- Supervise library staff
- Oversee and manage tutoring program, including hiring, scheduling, contracts, etc. of peer and faculty tutors.
- Promote and encourage the ethical use of information by students and faculty; assist students and faculty in effective usage. Provide assistance with obtaining copyright permissions.
- Develop, oversee, and implement a program of library orientation and information literacy instruction to support the instructional program and teach lifelong learning skills.
- Research technologies that will improve and update library services.
- Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of library resources in supporting the curriculum.
- Maintain library records and statistics to meet all regulatory requirements.
- Provide vision and leadership for the development of library resources, services, and policies.
- Develop short- and long-range plans for the library that support the goals of the school and ensure compliance with all accreditation standards. Implement procedures to ensure effective administration of library operations.
- Prepare and manage the library budget for assigned campus. Provide support in preparation of budget and financial reports.
Other Duties
- Oversee Testing Center and exam proctoring services
- Create video and web-based tutorials for library services
- Create/edit Research and Class Guides
- Assist with university-wide projects as assigned
40 hours per week with regular evenings and very occasional Saturdays. Flexible scheduling based on campus needs.
Additional Info & Requirements
Education and Experience: Minimum
- Master's degree in Library Science (MLS, MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program
- 3+ years of library experience
Education and Experience: Preferred
- Teaching or library instruction experience
- Experience in an academic setting
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, Competencies
- Commitment to public service. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- · Strong technology skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, and database management systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
