Job Description

What You'd Do:

Work at the Hadley Branch Library to provide customer service through the performance of both Circulation Clerk and Security Officer responsibilities.  Create positive experiences for library customers by checking out and returning books and other library materials, registering customers for library cards, placing holds and ordering books and other library materials from other agencies, correcting database holdings and other varied clerical duties.  Check entire building and secure points of entry, exits and interior areas at opening/closing.  Enforce customer and staff compliance with general safety/security rules and regulations.  Investigate theft and disturbances on library property.

You Have:

Knowledge of office practices and procedures, including skills in operating a computer and working with attention to detail.  Knowledge of safety hazards and how to manage them. Skill in securing buildings with several points of entry. Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information. Skill in enforcing customer and staff compliance with security rules and regulations and documenting and resolving conflicts. Ability to make simple mathematical computations.  Ability to lift 20 to 50 lbs. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community.  Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.  Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.  Ability to use basic workplace technology including email, internet and automated software.  Ability to obtain a Merchant Business Guard License issued by City/County of Denver.  Ability to pass a physical examination and a background check after the offer to hire has been made. 

Excellent customer service skills. 

One year of experience working with security and safety issues including experience providing customer service and solving service problems.

A high school diploma or equivalency.

A current Colorado driver's license with a good driving record.  

Spanish language fluency (preferred, not required).

Although the full salary range for this position is provided, starting salary is typically made at or near the range minimum.  The City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered.

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours.
