Job Description

Patron Experience Associates at JCPL provide frontline library service to the diverse and growing residents of Jefferson County and beyond.  In this position, you will provide quality library resources and exemplary customer service.  Helping people find what they need - whether it be what to read next, how to download an e-book, or how to find a job - is what we do all day, every day.  It is a fast-paced environment where the needs of the customer come first.

This position is 20 hours per week and offers a variety of great benefit opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Routinely provides direct customer service.
  • Uses high-level customer service skills to determine patron needs and create a positive, inviting atmosphere.
  • Provides information, referrals, and reader's advisory assistance to patrons in person, by phone, mail, and via electronic means.
  • Addresses and resolves complaints from patrons or forwards complaints to appropriate staff as necessary.
  • Performs simple to moderately complex research activities.
  • Locates materials through the use of electronic databases in JCPL, other library systems, and other sources.
  • Provides library instruction and patron education to the public, individually, and in groups.
  • Promotes and presents programs, classes, workshops, and activities at library locations and off-site, including seasonal programs and Storytime for children.
  • As needed, specializes in service to specific market segments (Children, Teens, Adults, Seniors).
  • Frequently uses new technology in daily duties and to support patrons with new software, hardware, and mobile devices.
  • Creates content for the web and social media as needed.
  • Under supervision, assists in the development and maintenance of existing collection, instructional tools, databases and reader's advisory materials.

Additional Info & Requirements

  • Minimum of one year direct customer service experience preferred.
  • Basic computer and technical skills appropriate for the position.
  • Intermediate reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Some public library experience preferred.
