Job Description

Do you like the cold? Do you love outdoor activities? Do you enjoy training in new and traditional ways? This position will give you the opportunity to enjoy all of the above as well as the opportunity to redesign the training program for our organization.

The North Dakota State Library is interested in hiring a person who can provide a new direction for the training we provide to librarians from all types of libraries, including many one or two person libraries.

Additional Info & Requirements

Provide development and technical assistance to libraries throughout North Dakota, primarily to school libraries and youth services staff of public libraries. Assist librarians with developing plans, policies and procedures; and provide guidance on library services. Coordinate dissemination of information and activities related to the Collaborative Summer Learning Program. Facilitate communication between Youth Services Librarians. Research trends in school libraries and youth services. Assist school librarians with certification questions. Develop resource materials for librarians and library staff. Participate in training initiatives provided by the State Library.  Participate in department activities and professional development with an emphasis on school libraries and public library youth services. Work closely with other Library Development Specialists and State Library staff as part of a team. Use personal computers and software applications in the areas of library science and general office work.

Approximately 25% of time will be spent in travel.

Two or more years professional library experience. Ability to communicate effectively with others, including communicating professional information to non-professional personnel. Ability to provide professional consultation with regard to training programs and staff training.
