Job Description

Summary: Manages the operation of a full-service branch. Responsible for managing, supervising and providing delivery of patron services for the branch.

Responsible for directing staff activities to achieve Library programs and goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Demonstrates and models excellent internal and external customer service. Maintains frequent personal presence in public area to ensure outstanding service.
  • Assists in the establishment and implementation of goals and objectives for library service which supports the Library’s mission. Responsible for modeling and promoting organizational values within the Library.
  • Manage library’s staff (librarians, library assistants, and circulation staff) directly or through subordinate supervisors. Includes hiring, orientation, training, coaching, and assignment of responsibilities, scheduling, evaluating performance, disciplining and facilitation of ongoing communication.
  • Manage facility’s operations, including monitoring and resolution of issues related to safety and security, furnishings and equipment functionality, cleaning, repairs and maintenance.  
  • Oversee management of study rooms and community rooms. Coordinate with other District staff and managers to resolve challenges related to physical facility.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, such as security and cleaning vendors, and partner organizations and governmental agencies.
  • Perform administrative functions including participation in annual budget justification and preparation, data collection and analysis,  report preparation, long-range service planning, management of resources, building projects, coordinating library services with other library managers, staff and the community.
  • Develop an awareness for community needs. Represent the Library and the District to the community, including schools, business, government and social groups through presentations, committee participation, networking and membership affiliation.
  • Provide direct customer service and programming, as needed.
  • Assist Deputy Director with administrative functions, like budget development, data and statistics gathering, analysis and reporting, site-based construction liaison, and special projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.
