Job Description

The Kraemer Family Library at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) seeks applications from energetic, innovative librarians for its Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian position. As a member of the Collections Management team, this position is responsible for the lifecycle of all electronic resources from acquisition to cancellation. Duties include updating and maintaining links to electronic resources and resolving problems associated with the acquisition, access, and renewal, etc.  This position is the library’s resident expert on all serials regardless of format. Other specific responsibilities include assisting with licensing and consortia agreements, communicating with vendors and publishers with regard to serials issues, and managing the gathering and calculation of use data for electronic resources.

This position also includes general reference desk duties, bibliographic instruction, collection development and liaison duties with selected academic departments, as well as participation in library policy formulation, university and professional service, and research and creative work.

Position Responsibilities:

Reports to: Director of Collections Management

Teaching/Librarianship responsibilities are to:

  1. Collaborate on the acquisition, implementation, and maintenance of the library's electronic resources, including assistance with licensing and consortia agreements, and documentation of existing electronic agreements.
  2. Communicate with vendors and publishers with regard to all issues related to serials acquisition, access, and subscription maintenance.
  3. Manage the acquisition, check-in, payment, access, preservation, and records for serials in all formats (print, electronic, microform) and supervise the continuing transition of serials from print to electronic format.
  4. Maintain, monitor and update entries in the electronic journal list and link resolver (Serials Solutions).
  5. Supervise and train student workers and other staff involved in serials work.
  6. Solicit, collect, maintain, compile, and provide as needed use data for the library's electronic resources.
  7. Responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting access issues for electronic resources and communicate with other library units regarding access issues as necessary.
  8. Compile and provide statistical reports and information on serials as necessary.
  9. Work with the Director of Collections Management and cataloging staff to add information on electronic resources, particularly electronic journals, to the III system.
  10. Develop the collections, provide individual, group, or course-related instruction, serve as department liaison, and assist students and faculty in selected subject area(s).
  11. Provide approximately four hours of reference desk coverage each week, including individual instruction in the use of library resources.

Research, service and other responsibilities are to:

  1. Participate in the development of library-wide policies, procedures, and goals.
  2. Develop professionally as a member of the academic community through such scholarly activities as research projects, publications, continuing education, attendance at conferences, professional service, and university and library service.
  3. Serve on committees, submit reports, and undertake special projects as specified by the Director of Collections Management or the Library Dean.

Additional Info & Requirements

Requirements:

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school
  • Experience or coursework in the technical procedures of acquiring, licensing, and maintaining electronic resources and serials in all formats

Desired Qualifications:

  • Post-MLS library experience in an academic setting, particularly experience with serials or electronic resources
  • Experience working with vendors or publishers
  • Reference, instruction, and collection development experience
  • Experience working with staff modules of an integrated library system, preferably Innovative Interfaces Inc. (III)
  • Experience with a link resolver, preferably Serials Solutions
  • Knowledge of or experience working in a consortia environment
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Initiative and demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively

The Colorado Springs campus of the University of Colorado was established in 1965. Doctoral degrees are offered in engineering, geropsychology, educational leadership and nursing practice.
