Job Description

What you'd do:

Work closely with the Youth Services Manager, the Summer of Learning Transition Team and staff system wide to design and implement Denver Public Library's new Summer of Learning program for youth of all ages. Pilot and evaluate new activities. Deepen the relationship with Denver Public Schools. Develop and enhance partnerships with Denver cultural institutions and city agencies. Work with the Community Relations Office to identify and nurture donor and partner relations. Develop and present staff training. Communicate effectively with staff, customers, program partners and library administration. Develop and implement a comprehensive program evaluation. Participate in all phases of the grant proposal, administration and evaluation process.

Denver Public Library is committed to doing its part to address Denver's 3rd grade reading scores and summer learning loss by expanding its Summer of Reading to a Summer of Learning program. Summer of Learning will be customer-centered and will provide choice; it will foster intrinsic motivation to read, learn and explore; it will be relationship-driven; it will be culturally responsive and relevant.

You have:

Knowledge of best practices in the following areas: positive youth development and social-emotional learning, informal and personalized learning, reading motivation, relationship building with youth of different ages, cultural responsiveness and relevance, family engagement, youth programming quality assessment/intervention and funding streams for summer and/or youth programs. Skill in providing strong and compassionate leadership in all phases of program management. Skill in facilitating group conversations with a variety of stakeholders. Skill in presenting information to and engaging with diverse audiences of ages and cultures, individually and in groups. Skill in providing excellent internal and external customer service. Skill in building relationships within the Library and in the community. Skill in grant management and reporting.
Ability to relate to the needs of young customers of all ages with varying skill levels and English language proficiency. Ability to adjust Summer of Learning activities based on tangible and intangible outcomes. Ability to ensure that requirements and reporting activities are met. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and decision making in meeting Summer of Learning goals and objectives. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, staff, funders and community partners. Ability to creatively problem solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to be innovative, flexible and well organized. Ability to use workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, social media and a variety of hardware and software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.
 
Three years of youth-related program management.
 
A Bachelor's degree in child development, elementary education or a related field is required. A Master's degree in library science or elementary education is a plus.
