This position leads promotion and public relations around student services and therefore demonstrates creativity in terms of messaging campaigns and ways of connecting with students. This position also assists with assessing the library's public and online services, including working with librarians and staff on aspects of collection development, the development of new services, user-centered space design, and other facets of the physical and online library that enhance the user experience. Participating fully as part of the Reference Department, the librarian provides hour-long general and specialized consultations for students, faculty, and staff in the Research Center, teaches information literacy workshops in assigned disciplines, and participates in instructional programming for first-year foundational courses. Liaison areas of responsibility may include non-traditional and distance learning programs. The librarian actively engages in scholarly activities through research and publication and participates in professional organizations, as well as library and campus committees. Appointments will be made at level of Assistant or Associate Professor, non-tenure track.

Essential Functions

  • Effectively communicate the library's goals, services, and news to various campus constituencies, as well as to outside constituencies as appropriate.
  • Participate in reference and instructional services delivery, instructing users on a variety of print and electronic sources.
  • Provide hour-long research consultations with students, faculty and staff at the Research Center, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Serve as a liaison in subject areas as assigned.
  • Build collections to meet the research and curricular needs of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in assigned areas.
  • Serve on library and campus committees.
  • Work in accord with the promotion guidelines, and engage in scholarly activities through research and publication, as a library faculty member.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Capacity to build strong connections with faculty and students.
