Job Description

What you'd do:

Work with the Early Learning Department to provide high quality, research-based, early literacy enriched learning experiences for children from birth through kindergarten and their adults to promote a love of learning, reading, and later school success. Administer the Read Aloud Program: recruit, coordinate, and support program volunteers; work with teachers and schools to determine volunteer placements; work closely with DPL's Community Resource Office to administer related grants; maintain and develop program collection; communicate with program stakeholders; evaluate program; provide storytimes for children from birth through kindergarten. Provide outreach to adults: Share research-based early learning outreach to parents, caregivers, teachers, and adults to provide the information and resources they need to support children from birth through kindergarten in acquiring critical early learning skills. Build, foster, and strengthen relationships with community partners including schools, cultural institutions, city agencies and other organizations working in the early learning field. Support early learning efforts across DPL system: Work with youth services staff to develop and implement early learning programming for children from birth through kindergarten and their adults.

You have:

Knowledge of early child development. Skill in speaking to groups in formal and informal settings. Skill in providing excellent internal and external customer service. Skill in building relationships within the Library and in the community. Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, coworkers, staff, and community partners. Ability to relate to and validate the needs of customers of all ages with varying life experiences and English language proficiency. Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and decision making in meeting goals and objectives. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, staff, funders and community partners. Ability to use workplace and other technology including email, internet, databases, social media and a variety of hardware and software. Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.

Experience working with children from birth through kindergarten. Experience working with families and caregivers.  Experience working with schools, teachers, and literacy organizations. Spanish language skills are a plus, as is experience working with adult volunteers.  

Master's in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution.  

A valid Colorado driver's license and a vehicle.
