Job Description

The Whatcom County Library System seeks an energetic, innovative and dynamic Children’s Librarian to promote a welcoming, informative, and educational environment for children at the Lynden Library and deliver specialized professional library service to children and their families. We are looking for a self-motivated, problem solving, creative individual who can facilitate a team, establish community relationships, organize and develop planning, and connect with children and their families. Requires Master’s Degree and three years relevant experience; Master in Library Science and Librarian certification preferred. Experience working with children, and passion for children’s literature required; Spanish language fluency a plus. Full-time position. You have the ability to engage and delight children during tours of the library and in story times with dynamic readings and participatory activities.  You have a talent for imaginative, inventive, and exciting programming and know how to merchandise and design powerful book displays. You value customer service for all patrons as well as fellow co-workers. You are spontaneous and unafraid to take risks and learn something new. You believe that anyone can become a reader at any age.  Requires the ability to gain working knowledge of Whatcom County Library System’s policies and procedures; ability to uphold intellectual freedom standards.  Attention to detail, computer knowledge, and keyboarding skills required.  Must have the ability to speak, understand, and write English clearly and concisely; Spanish language fluency a plus
