Job Description

Are you committed to early literacy? Do you enjoy experimenting with technology and innovative programming? Does supervising a passionate, creative group of employees sound fun and exciting? The Children’s Services department at the Montrose Regional Library is looking for an innovative, tech savvy leader with excellent customer service and library skills. We are seeking an imaginative librarian who approaches challenges with flexibility and a touch of humor. We need a department head who will:  

  • Oversee the Children’s Services staff, including mentoring, training, coaching and evaluating.
  • Foster positive team relationships.
  • Oversee and participate in the delivery of traditional, non-traditional, and innovative library services for children from birth to middle school and their families and caregivers, including collection development, children’s reference service, readers’ advisory, and storytimes as well as emerging, non-traditional services such as STEM, maker, and other types of programs that further the mission of the library.
  • Advocate for children’s library services internally and through community functions and outreach.
  • Generally perform as a Children’s Department superstar.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program strongly preferred.
  • Professional library experience which must include supervisory experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of new technologies and standard productivity software.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills desirable.

 Salary negotiable from $43,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.

The Community

Montrose is a vital and growing community of approximately 20,000 on Colorado's beautiful Western Slope. The district consists of a main library, two rural branches, and a bookmobile, with a total service area of about 41,000.
