Job Description

POSITION: This administrative professional position reports to the Coordinator for Library Technology Services (LTS). S/he works as part of Library Technology Services, but will interact with every department of the University Libraries. RESPONSIBILITIES: This position works in a team-based environment with other IT professionals in the Libraries, and will: • Direct the implementation and support of approximately 600 networked PCs, laptops, printers, and document scanners in the University Libraries. This includes tasks such as configuring PCs and Macs, installing and upgrading software, customizing application software for specific user needs, and preparing cloning images. • Help configure, manage, update, troubleshoot, and maintain selected computer servers in the University Libraries running Linux, Windows or Mac. • Supervise hourly technicians as they configure, update, troubleshoot, and support the hardware, software, and operating systems for the University Libraries PCs, laptops, printers and document scanners. • Provide training and technical advice/leadership for hourly technicians. • Respond to trouble calls from Libraries staff by providing hardware and software support. • Develop and maintain documentation covering the implementation, troubleshooting, and support of PCs, laptops, printers, document scanners, and software. Documentation includes vendor information, contacts and procedures for repairs. • Rotate pager duty with four other LTS Staff for emergency support 24/7. • Work with associated campus computer labs or technology units as needed. • Participate in LTS meetings and planning sessions. Back-up other LTS staff when they are unavailable. • Develop scripts in support of system/desktop administration. • Other duties as assigned

RANK AND SALARY: Full-time, regular administrative professional position. Insurance benefits are available. Administrative professionals may select from several options for medical, dental, life, and personal disability insurance, as well as retirement plans. Full-time administrative professionals earn 24 days of vacation and 15 days of sick leave annually. Optional deferred compensation. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Required: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field of study; two years of experience in PC configuration/image creation, implementation, support, and troubleshooting; experience with Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Office XP, Internet Explorer, and Firefox. Experience with scripting. Must have strong interpersonal skills, good customer service skills, ability to work in a team environment, and clear written communication skills. Preferred: Experience with VB scripting, Microsoft Vista, and/or Microsoft Office 2007. Experience with Mac OS 10 support. Experience working in a heterogeneous server environment (Linux and Windows 2003 Server), and experience supervising hourly technicians.
