The Community
The Basalt Regional Library District has an approximate population of 18,000. The Library is located in the Town of Basalt, and the surrounding Library District includes portions of Eagle and Pitkin Counties. The patron base is a mix of young families, both Anglo and Latino, and a growing number of retirees. The Library is one building, 20,000 sq. feet, with a Silver LEED Certification, and was constructed in 2008. Patrons of the District are very supportive of the Library, and its place in the community. The Library is often mentioned as one of the reasons patrons give for moving to Basalt. In November of 2016, a ballot measure to obtain supplemental Library funding was passed by a large margin. The Library also has both an active Friends group and a dedicated Foundation Board to help with fundraising. The Library operates on a budget of $1.3 million per year.
The Town of Basalt is located in a mountain setting at the confluence of two Gold Medal rivers. It is equidistant between Aspen and Glenwood Springs with access to excellent schools, a thriving arts community, and fine restaurants and stores. Basalt has a great small town atmosphere and outdoor recreational opportunities, which add to its overall appeal.
