Job Description

Reports to: Manager of Programming

Position: 40 hours, full-time; exempt

 

Role: Responsible for leadership of the Programming staff and implementer for centralized library programs and localized marketing activities for a determined number of library branches. Responsible for mentoring, training and supervision of Programming staff.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

50% - SUPERVISION AND PROGRAMMING DELIVERY/SUPPORT - Supervises employees by hiring, scheduling, training, coaching, reviewing performance and facilitating workflow to create a team atmosphere. Assists in the improvement, execution and evaluation of centralized library programs, and large scale special events. Leads and trains employees in the preparation, hosting and delivering of centralized programs and services at multiple branches and in the community in order to create a wow experience for patrons that reflects our brand's Four Pillars. Monitors program registration and attendance numbers while coaching Programming Staff on how to handle overflows, low registrations, age conflicts or other logistical concerns.  Works with Programming staff and Branch staff to understand demographics and trends at the branches.

 

30% -  COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT - Works directly with the Communications Department to develop and implement a grass-roots local library marketing plan by having Programming Specialists delivering marketing materials to local community organizations and business, identifying additional program promotion, and staffing local community events by coordinating with Librarians, Tech , Community Partnerships, Communications, Programming Specialists and other staff as needed in order to increase program attendance and library awareness. Develops internal communication methods, including attending library staff meetings as needed, to keep district staff informed on upcoming programs and events. Steps in for presentations or demonstrations regarding programs, technology, or services as needed.

 

20% - RESEARCH - Work with Programming Specialists and Library Supervisors to identify audiences at each branch and discovers needs/wants for patron programming and develops and implements a system for program evaluation for centralized programs.

 

Qualifications:

 

Two to five years of relevant experience in performance and special event planning, required. 

Bachelor's degree, required.

Two to five years of previous supervisory experience, required.

Ability to supervise a team that works in multiple facilities.  Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills, including responsibility for outcomes, personal productivity, practical thinking, adaptability, coaching, interpersonal skills and business ethics, required.

Ability to work varying shifts and at multiple facilities, including evenings and weekends, required.

Knowledge of informational databases, preferred. Intermediate technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook, required.

Basic skills in Sierra, preferred

Ability to be mobile 100% of the time. Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds and ability to lift up to 35 pounds unassisted, regularly, and up to 50 pounds assisted occasionally, required.

Ability to effectively present information in a public setting to diverse audiences, required.

 Ability to organize work, determine priorities, handle multiple tasks, complete projects on time, and problem solve, required. Demonstrated dependability and critical observation, required. Ability to travel to other work/library locations, required.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun, required.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.
