Job Description

This full-time, exempt position exists to develop, promote, and deliver information literacy and library related instruction within the Arapahoe Community College Library & Learning Commons. This position will have primary responsibility for library reference services and information literacy instruction at ACC. The Head Reference Librarian will supervise one part-time reference assistant and will be responsible for scheduling consistent coverage at the reference desk, assigning librarians to teach library instruction classes, and being the ACC representative to AskAcademic, a multi-state cooperative providing 24/7 research and information services.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic professional who will contribute fresh ideas and proven strategies for providing stellar reference and instruction services. In addition to working regular shifts at the reference desk, off-desk time will be spent managing the Archives Collection, processing inter-library loan materials, staying current on best practices and library trends, being actively involved in library strategic planning, marketing our resources and services through outreach, serving on campus-wide committees, collaborating with faculty and staff on projects, and proactively contributing to our team with a can-do attitude. The expected start date is June 26, 2017.

Every ACC faculty and staff member is expected to participate in the assessment process of the College, utilizing the results of assessment for continuous institutional improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reference Services:

Provide reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff. Schedule reference desk hours and assign librarians to teach library instruction classes at the Littleton, Parker, and Castle Rock campuses.

Information Literacy Program:

Develop, implement, assess and revise information literacy programs in order to achieve student proficiency in information literacy.

Information Literacy Instruction:

Provide individual and classroom instruction in information literacy to students, faculty and staff across disciplines. Discover new ways to engage students and present timely information.

10%

Maintain College Archives:

Collect, preserve and provide access to the College’s Archives Collection according to best practices.

Supervise:

Hire, schedule, mentor, and assign projects to one part-time reference assistant currently in a library graduate program.

Outreach:

Promote the Library’s services and resources while participating on college wide committees.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Master of Library Science or Master of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program
  • Three years of experience providing reference services
  • Three years of experience delivering classroom instruction
  • One year of experience working with web-based tools (particularly LibGuides, WebEx and Podcasts)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience providing reference services in a college or university
  • Knowledge of current information literacy standards and practices in higher education, including student learning outcomes and assessment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience managing an Archives collection
  • Experience with Interlibrary Loan using OCLC and Swift
