Job Description

The Spokane County Library Board of Trustees seeks an enthusiastic, visionary, community minded leader as its next Library Director. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, exhibit a clear vision and commitment to community engagement, articulate and advocate the Library District’s strategic directions, provide sound fiscal management, and promote collaborative relationships within the District and throughout the community.

The ability to lead and inspire staff with creative new ideas for increasing library services while growing the use of and support for library services among the public and strategic partners is critical in this role. This is a highly visible position requiring a dynamic leader capable of working closely with staff, the executive leadership team, and the Board of Trustees and who can lead and inspire a full-service, outwardly focused organization.

Eight years progressively responsible professional library management experience with at least five years recent

professional senior level management experience in a public library

The Community

For over 75 years, the Library District has been providing library services to the citizens of Spokane County, including the cities and towns of Cheney, Deer Park, Fairfield, Medical Lake, Millwood, Spokane Valley, and Airway Heights, and it has reciprocal agreements with the library systems in the cities of Spokane and Liberty Lake.

Today, the Library District has grown to eleven libraries serving more than 269,000 residents in the County and embraces an outward focus as a result of being 1 of 10 libraries in the nation selected by the Harwood Institutes’ Libraries Transforming Communities initiative.
