Job Description

This position will provide and maintain high quality, accessible library bibliographic and authority catalog records for all books, e-books, periodicals, videos, documents, etc. in print, microform, and electronic format. Serve as database administrator for library’s integrated system.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

ILS Administration

  • Serve as liaison between library staff and Integrated Library System vendor (Innovative), making full use of remotely-hosted system (Polaris) and keeping all staff prepared for system upgrades. Train all staff to use the integrated system.
  • Train and provide necessary resources for all staff to use Polaris, including Administration, Public Catalog Display, Cataloging, Serials, Circulation, Course Reserves, Inventory, and Reports.
  • Attend annual system conferences and present relevant, progressive system information to staff.
  • Prepare for system upgrades as needed.

 Technical Services

  • Assist with serials holding record maintenance.
  • Compile and report collection statistics.
  • Export bibliographic records to shared resources, such as Ebsco’s Discovery Service and OCLC’s WorldCat, on a regular basis.
  • Perform electronic resources management for catalog.
  • Perform original and copy cataloging.
  • Select, customize, import, and/or create bibliographic and authority records for library catalog according to current professional library standards.
  • Work with several campus departments to include their departmental library holdings in the mail library catalog.

 Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop collection for assigned academic or applied sciences programs by selecting materials to purchase and removing irrelevant or obsolete items.
  • Serve at Reference Desk on a scheduled basis.
  • Train and supervise two (2) student assistants to process daily books, DVDs, periodicals, etc.
  • Teach library instruction classes as needed.
  • Prepare inventory lists.
  • Repair books.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Info & Requirements

Initial salary is commensurate with education and related work experience.

  • Experience or knowledge of Integrated Library System (ILS) Administration in an academic setting is preferred
  • Familiarity with editing MARC cataloging records is preferred.

The Community

Lee College:

Lee College is a Community College in Baytown, Texas that has 7,000 students.  The highest enrolled programs include Process Technology, Instrumentation Technology, CADD Engineering, General Studies, and Nursing.

Lee College Library:

The Lee College Library extends its facilities and resources to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Located on the first floor of the Advanced Technology Center (ATC), the library continually updates its print and electronic materials, giving patrons a variety of resources that can be accessed in the library or remotely. It holds over 70,000 print books and more than 130,000 electronic and print periodical titles. In addition, it provides over 80,000 electronic books and government documents, and access to over 100 article, art, and video databases. The library also provides access to approximately 1,800 DVDs/VHS tapes, and over 18,000 streaming video titles.

Baytown:

Baytown is located on the northern shore of Galveston Bay between the San Jacinto and Trinity Rivers, thirty miles east of Downtown Houston, conveniently situated on the Coastal Plains of Texas.

The tidal bays of Baytown, which fan out in to Galveston and Trinity Bays, produce an abundance of marine life. The temperate climate is dominated by the Gulf of Mexico. Winter days are often very pleasant with only occasional temperatures below freezing.

The third largest city in the Houston metropolitan area, Baytown has a population of more than 60,000 diverse citizens. It is a prosperous industrial community with a strong tax base provided by such corporations as ExxonMobil, Chevron Phillips, and Bayer. It is justifiably proud of its reputation for supporting local, state and national causes. For example, its Relay for Life raises more money than any other city in Texas.
