Job Description

Arapahoe Libraries is looking for a Collection Development Librarian to purchase and maintain the popular feature films, television series, music CDs and graphic novels in our Adult and Children's collections.  The position will also evaluate the online databases to ensure we are offering our patrons the best resources available. 

 If you have a master's degree in Library Science, at least 2 years of Collection Development experience, and have a passion for popular culture, we want to hear from you!

 

Location: Support Services, 12855 E. Adam Aircraft Circle, Englewood, CO 80112. 

Position: Full-time, Exempt. Must be able to work Monday Friday during business hours.  Some special projects may entail working occasional evenings or weekends.

Pay Rate: Starting at $47,476 per year plus benefits

Role: Identifies, selects, budgets, analyzes and weeds designated materials.

 Major Duties and Responsibilities:

50% -  MATERIALS SELECTION AND BUDGET MAINTENANCE - Selects and orders physical and digital materials for the collection by identifying the most cost effective vendor, selecting desired materials, and preparing orders for materials to be acquired.  Works with manager to set the budget for the various formats within the assigned collection. Monitors the budgets allotted to the formats in the assigned collection.  Makes decisions based on budget resources and reports budget issues to manager.

35% -  COLLECTION ANALYSIS - Identifies appropriate materials for the collection by gaining a full understanding of the Library District's collection philosophy, overall collection and branch holdings, the unique requirements of particular communities, and developing a profile for orders that will address the needs.

15% -  WEEDING - Organizes the collection by determining the usefulness of materials, making decisions for their removal from the collection, and mentoring branch employees on collection maintenance practices, in order to present an attractive, organized and updated collection.

Qualifications

At least two years of experience ordering and maintaining library collections, required.

MLS or MLIS degree, required.

Ability to travel to other work/library locations, as needed, required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Advanced technology skills for Windows, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer and Outlook, required.

Intermediate skills in Sierra, preferred.

Considerable knowledge of materials selection and collection development principles; collection assessment and evaluation techniques; publishing trends; and current recreational and information needs of the public, required.

Intermediate skills in collection weeding, preferred. 

Ability to be mobile 50% of the time and sit as needed; ability to bend, stoop, reach, and push a loaded wheeled book truck weighing up to 100 pounds, 10% of the time, required. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds, unassisted, occasionally, and up to 50 pounds, assisted, occasionally, required.

Ability to comfortably present information in a clear and engaging manner in dealing with customers and colleagues one-on-one or in groups, in both formal and informal settings.

Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun.

Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Ability to successfully work with varying demographics, required.
