Job Description

At North Star Elementary, we know the elementary school years are an important time in students’ lives.  It’s when they acquire a love of learning, an understanding of how to work with others and a deep curiosity for the world around them.  We believe it’s our responsibility to create a warm and engaging environment where students find job and purpose in school.  Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Program.  The purpose of the program is to establish and maintain a school environment that maximizes the academic achievement and behavioral competence of all learners.  We support character development through our RESPECT Program, using literacy and classroom discussion to learn about specific character traits.

Supporting our staff!  Through collaboration, observation and constructive feedback we give teachers the support they need to be successful, including:

  • Two-year induction period (new teachers)

  • Data-driven professional development
  • Collaborative coaching

Digital Literacy (TOSA)
SUMMARY:
This Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) will:
1. Purposefully implement instruction of digital literacy skills within content area classrooms.
--Plan with classroom teacher to integrate technology skills into existing lesson plans
--Plan with classroom teacher to provide instruction of information literacy skills
--Plan with classroom teacher to instruct in internet safety skills
--Clearly identify digital literacy skills addressed per lesson, per grade level
--Co-teach lessons with the classroom teacher.
--Assess digital skills along with content knowledge after lesson completion.
--Re-teach digital literacy skills as indicated by assessment data.
2. Provide formal and informal professional development for staff to help empower teachers to integrate technology and
information literacy skills into content areas.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
--Master's degree or endorsement in instructional technology or library field
--Minimum of three (3) years experience as a certified teacher in a K-12 setting
--Proven integration of technology into instruction in an educational setting

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
--Must hold a valid Colorado teachers license and be highly qualified in specified core content area.
--Preference given to candidates with ELL Training and/or an ESL or (LDE) Linguistically Diverse Education
Endorsement.
--Criminal background check required for hire.

--Excellent co-teaching and collaboration skills with peers
--Proven ability to model teaching strategies with peer involvement

--Ability to teach students and peers both tech integration and information literacy strategies and lessons
--Critical thinking and problem solving skills
--Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job
--Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities
--Ability to work across multiple grade levels and content areas
--Successful completion of the Digital Skills Assessment test is required prior to hire
Proven information literacy skills and experience:
a. search strategies
b. eBook access and retrieval
c. digital citizenship
d. 21st century skills - critical thinking, problem-solving, evaluation, synthesis (of information)
e. integration of eResources in education
Proven instructional technology skills and experience:
a. contemporary hardware trouble-shooting
b. integration of mobile devices in education (i.e. cell phones, iPads, eReaders)
c. familiarity with online presentation programs that support creativity
d. strong software aptitude
Evidence of life-long learner who is networked
a. subscribes to blogs, journals, and other current publications
b. is a contributing member of a personal learning network
c. familiarity with professional organizations that support mission of instructional technology
d. willingness to attend and/or present at professional conferences
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computing devices and online applications ( laptops,
tablets, e-readers, smart phones)
Operating knowledge of and experience with online productivity tools for education (Google applications,
Microsoft suite, social media, presentation tools, networking sites, subscription databases and ebooks).
