Job Description
Vail Public Library is looking for a customer service oriented team player who exhibits excellent judgment, has effective communication skills, and can provide a welcoming environment to our patrons. The position will provide general Circulation, Reference and Reader’s Advisory service assistance to patrons of all ages. Participates in a variety of tasks at the Service Desk including, but not limited to, entering and analyzing Circulation data, processing Membership applications, and explaining library lending policies and procedures. Assesses patron needs and instructs them in making effective use of library resources. Assists patrons with the use of the Internet, online databases, eBook devices, etc. This position is responsible for programs applicable to young adults and adults. Works with the Children’s Team in preparation and presentation of programs and services for young adults. Assists with ideas for programs and collects necessary supplies and materials. Communicates with performers/presenters for press information, billing info, etc. Creates and distributes flyers to multiple resources and updates calendars to distribute around the library. Responsible for ideas, research and implementation of equipment and programs offered in the Tech Studio. Responsible for all Community Room bookings, and updating the website with program info, policies, etc. Orders supplies for the library and keeps areas adequately stocked, e.g., bookmarks, Vail Walking Maps, etc. Responsible for all monthly displays. The Associate also participates in short and long range planning for Circulation-related issues. Handles other related library duties, as assigned.

In addition, qualified candidates will meet the following requirements:
- 3 years of progressively responsible library experience, preferably in a public library or related setting.
- Demonstrated skills with Circulation-related duties and general public Reference tools including use of online databases and Internet searches
- Public library Circulation & Reference experience is required
- Knowledge of the latest library and technology trends.
- Previous guest service experience.
- Strong communication & listening skills.
- Proficiency in standard business systems such as MSWord, Excel & databases.

Must be able to maintain positive, team-player staff relations.
- A high school diploma is required and additional education is preferred.
Light lifting, stooping and bending required to move books, computers and other library products. Schedule includes evening and weekend shifts (Sat & Sun required).
