Job Description

BROAD SCOPE OF POSITION:   It is the mission of the Pikes Peak Library District to seek, engage, and transform lives through library services and resources that enrich individual lives and build community.

This position operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the mission of the Library by providing services and programming to promote access and provide instruction for personal growth and research. This position leads the branch in setting and achieving strategic goals, conducting outreach to community organizations and by providing patrons with the best resources and programming for their community needs.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

1 Ability to plan, assess, and forecast strategic goals for the future on a District-wide basis

2 In-depth and advanced knowledge of library services, practices, and procedures

3 Ability to exhibit leadership, sound judgment, and a professional demeanor in all interactions

4 Ability to think and act appropriately under pressure

5 Ability to select and develop staff through recruiting, training, coaching, and evaluating performance on a regular basis

6 Ability to set goals and strategies for staff in areas of training and development

7 Ability to supervise staff and provide leadership, guidance, and direction

8 Ability to provide excellent customer service to staff and patrons; ability to communicate in an age-appropriate manner

9 Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

10 Ability to exhibit flexibility when responding to staff and patrons or changing service needs

11 Must have competency in using technology and computer applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, Internet searching, etc.)

12 Must be able to plan, organize, and perform work assignments with initiative and professionalism

13 Knowledge of and skills in standard budgeting processes

14 Skills necessary to represent the District with tact and courtesy and provide a positive image in attitude, appearance, and performance of duties

15 Ability to work as part of a team, have a "whatever-it-takes" work ethic, and have an excellent customer service attitude

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

1 Develops, coordinates, and implements long and short-range plans of District-wide service to meet strategic plan objectives within the community by engaging in active partnerships with community business leaders, schools, government agencies and other non-profit groups

2 Provides leadership, guidance, training, direction, and assistance to the branch staff.

3 Responsible for development and implementation of operating procedures for the branch; communicates and implements District-wide policies with staff.

4 Responsible for patron and staff security by coordinating with Security staff and police as needed in emergency situations; resolves patron disputes.

5 Interviews, selects, trains, and develops new staff; participates in terminations as necessary. Conducts employee evaluations and develops goals and strategies for staff development

6 Oversees staff assignments and coordinates the public service desk schedule with the Branch Supervisor; reviews workload stats and recommends or adjusts staffing levels

7 Actively promotes and represents the branch through programming, outreach, and partnerships within the community; provides recreational, instructional, and education opportunities for children, teens, adults, and seniors in the branch community

8 Evaluates programs and makes recommendations for changes to ensure programming meets the needs of the community

9 Prepares and monitors budgetary expenditures for the branch

10 Works on the public service desks providing reference service to walk-ins, over the phone, and via electronic delivery

11 Maintains the building facility in conjunction with the Facilities Department and site landlords

12 Maintains good working relationship with external vendors and community partners

13 Provides excellent customer service, maintains a courteous, positive image of the library, and maintains confidentiality when interacting with patrons and staff

14 Responds to patron suggestions, comments, and complaints in a timely, professional, and constructive manner

15 Evaluates and manages the collection in coordination with Collection Management

16 Prepares reports and performs other related duties as assigned

POSITION HOURS:            40 hours per week per the following schedule:

                                           Monday - Friday                  8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
