The Coordinator of Cataloging and Metadata Services provides vision and serves as the lead for bibliographic metadata practices and policies at the University of Denver Libraries. In addition, the Coordinator works closely with librarians and staff throughout technical services areas in order to evaluate and iteratively improve workflows in the library management system (LMS). This position prepares the catalog for the future of bibliographic description, exploring new standards in metadata, linked data, the semantic web, and regional and national systems of print repositories. As a supervisor the Coordinator strives to create a rewarding workplace for an experienced team of catalogers.
This position oversees all aspects of cataloging and bibliographic and authority control, including cataloging in all formats using OCLC and Ex Libris Alma system; manages catalog and bibliographic metadata creation and maintenance; develops and implements cataloging policies and procedures; supervises cataloging staff performing original and complex copy-cataloging; and coordinates both regular workflow and metadata projects in collaboration with the Metadata and Digitization Librarian. DU Libraries migrated to Alma in 2016, and this position serves as a key resource in understanding and troubleshooting issues that arise both as a result of migration and ongoing changes in systems compatibility. Faculty at DU actively engage in scholarly activities through research and publication, and participate in professional organizations, as well as library and campus committees.
